Sprint cars are perhaps one of the most demanding classes in racing. Take a look at some of big name stars over the years and their backgrounds all stem from the sprints. Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, Jeff Gordon, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne to name a few. Although there are some outstanding sprint car drivers across the country, here in eastern Pennsylvania boast some of the best in the business. Ryan Kissinger may not be one of those just yet but the 18-year old from Bloomsburg is aspiring to head in that direction.

MAY KICKS OFF BUSY SCHEDULE FOR MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY

St. Johns, PA- Now headed into the second weekend in May, Mountain Speedway has a heavy slate planned for the rest of the month. Saturday, May 10 will highlight the Street Stocks, Thrillers, ATQMRA Midgets (double features), and the 4 cyl. FWD division. The following day, which is Mother’s Day, will showcase the second event of the season for the sport modifieds, legend cars, super stocks, micro stocks and bandoleros. The track made the announcement a few weeks ago that all mothers will be admitted for free to the grandstands.

MAHONING VALLEY SPEEDWAY LISTS UPCOMING MAY RACE DATES

This past Saturday night Mahoning Valley Speedway suffered its first rainout of the season. The quarter mile paved oval will look to rebound this weekend, May 10, with a full card of racing that will include regular features for the Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro4 Late Models, Factory Stocks and 4-Cylinder Stocks. Also on the program will be the 4C Super Mods plus in acknowledgment of Mothers Day, the track will host Women on Wheels which will be a Ladies only race. Race time is 6:00pm.

PAULES "FLAWLESS" IN MOUNTAIN MODIFIED MAIN
MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY

Three of the four feature winners notched their first wins of the season Sunday at Mountain Speedway.   Earl Paules held off a late race charge by Rusty Smith to notch his first modified victory of the season.  After two straight weeks of bad luck, Paul Frantz bested Todd Ahner for top honors in the double points street stock event and Paul Koehler grabbed his first late model victory of the season over Jim Lamoreaux.  After holding off Nick Ross, Scott Adams took his second win of the season in the thriller feature.

MAY 3 AT RACES AT MAHONING VALLEY SPEEDWAY CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN
MAHONING VALLEY SPEEDWAY

Mahoning Valley Speedway has cancelled the Saturday night, May 3 racing events due to weather. With a shroud of dampness and thick clouds that hovered over the Lehighton and surrounding area throughout the morning and with the National Weather Service calling for rain starting later in the evening, race track officials felt it would be in the best interest to both fans and teams to cancel.

MARK EARNEST CRAVES NUMIDIA TRIUMPH
THE INSIDE TRACK

Mark Earnest of Jerseyshore doesn’t necessarily consider himself a hardcore racer. Instead he’s grateful to be involved in a sport that has helped him fulfill his urge for competition at what he calls a well known and well-managed drag strip- Numidia Dragway. Earnest runs the pro class and competes with his professionally built 1970 Chevy Nova. Definitely not a street legal machine- the engine puts out 650 HP, the car has a full roll cage, a racing seat, 5 point racing harness and over 50% of the vehicles body id made of fiberglass.

BRIAN DEFEBO ADDS ANOTHER VICTORY TO ALL-TIME MOUNTAIN RECORD
MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY

St. Johns, PA- Brian DeFebo of Berwick propelled from fourth to the lead after a restart in the modified feature event Sunday at Mountain Speedway. Brian Wozniak scored his first career victory in street stock competition and Mike Moyer, Jr. scored his first thriller verdict of the season. For the second straight week, Nikki Wachs grabbed the gold in the 4 cyl. FWD division and “Rocket Man” Ryan Tidman bested the field in ATQMRA midget competition. Representatives from the Checkered Flag Fan Club were on hand to help raise money and sign on new members for the non-profit organization. The club also presented jackets to each feature winner who is enrolled in the organization.

JUSTIN GROSZ SET TO JOIN ARDC MIDGETS
KEEPING TRACK

Northeast Pennsylvania and the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) have always had strong ties. Zach Martini of Hazleton. Bloomsburg drivers as Ray Bull, Randy Mausteller and Johnny and Eric Heydenreich. There's Shane Penny of Nescopeck to name a few. This year another northeast PA racer will be added to the roster of the time honored midget racing club as 15-year old Justin Grosz of Hawley is coming onboard.
