Rat Rods Set to Invade NELMA on Sat. Oct. 24, 2009
The Rat Rods are set to invade Sundance Vacations Speedway in St. Johns,
Pa. for the Hazleton Rat Rod Festival and Automotive Swap Meet on Saturday,
October 24, 2009. The event will serve as an exciting preamble for the NELMA
stock car racing program, which is one of the Northeast’s premier short
track racing events.
Rat rods are more than just flat-black, skulls-and-flames-adorned, bad-ass
customized cars from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s. They represent a
counter-culture to the typical high-priced traditional hot rods and customs.
The vehicles aren’t meant to be mere showboats. Their owners aren’t mere
yuppies, either; they’re true gear-heads with grease underneath their
fingernails. A rat rod is the epitome of where form meets function. They are
meant to be driven and pushed to their limit. All of which is pose many
similarities to stock car racing.
“Rat rods and stock cars have many things in common,” said NELMA promoter
J.A. Ackley. “The early days of stock car racing had guys picking up old
cars, stripping them down to their bare essentials, and customizing them for
performance rather than appearance. The bad-ass rat rod and the original
stock car are really long-lost cousins, and I’m happy to bring them together
for a family reunion.”

Automotive Swap Meet visit www.nelmaracing.com. In addition to the

there. All rat rod aficionados and swap meet spectators will receive free
admission for the Rat Rod and Swap Meet portion of the day.
The Hazleton Rat Rod Festival and Automotive Swap Meet will run from 10
A.M.-2 P.M on Saturday, October 24, 2009, with a rain date of Sunday,

Pro Truck Rumble.
