Mahoning
Valley Loses Final Show to Rain
The final race weekend of
the year at Mahoning Valley Speedway fell victim to the weather as
persistent rain was all around the Lehighton area throughout the morning and
with heavy precipitation expected by the early afternoon, track promoters
Doug and Gena Hoffman had no other choice but to cancel.
There will be no more
racing as the season is now concluded.
Hand 5 of the Mahoning Modified 100 Poker Series was to be held as well as
the postponed final point Street Stock feature from July 25, a Street Stock
100 lapper plus a Dirt Modified show.
While the Poker Series,
which carries a jackpot of $5000 that will be shared by the top three
drivers who gather the best poker hand, is still to be decided, the decision
has been made for that event to be run as the first race of the 2010 season
opener on a date to be named later.
Meanwhile Randy Ahner, Jr.,
has been crowned the 2009 Street Stock champion. Although he and Shawn
Sitarchyk were tied in points heading into Saturday’s make-up race, Ahner
was rewarded the title by virtue of his heat race finish from July 25. Those
heat points were figured in after today’s races were called.
On July 25 Ahner won his
heat and gained six points on Sitarchyk who did not tally any markers that
day.
The next event will be the
annual Awards Banquet set for Saturday evening, December 5 at the
Northampton Memorial Community Center in Northampton. Cocktails start at
5:30 with dinner at 6:30. Tickets are $55 a person and include a sit down
meal, open bar, dancing and lots of fun! There are a limited number of
tickets this year so it is advised to reserve as soon as possible.
