Dirt
Modifieds Added to Mahoning Valley October 31 Show
The Dirt Modified stock
cars have been added to the season finale at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley
Speedway on Saturday afternoon, October 31 beginning at 2:00 p.m. They will
be part of the program that includes the $3000 to win Hand 5 of the Modified
100 Poker Series, a $1000 to win Street Stock 100 and the postponed July 25
Street Stock feature.
2009 marked the first year
that the Dirt Mods became a weekly class at the paved quarter mile oval.
Through most of the season there was a core group of regulars that came out
each week including newly crowned champion Randy Thomas, runner-up Steve
Folk, Chad Jones, Alex Mayer and Dave Thomas. Others made sporadic
appearances, but, over the final few weeks the numbers and interest grew.
The already close action
between the aforementioned reached an even higher intensity level with near
full fields on track.
Since the final point race
for the class on October 3, track promoters Doug and Gena Hoffman have been
receiving numerous calls about the division for 2010.
Because of the positive
response of recent weeks, the track has made a decision to add the Dirt Mods
to the season ending show. It will be a regular feature that includes heats
and a main.
The highlight of the day
will be the fifth and final race in the Modified 100 Poker Series. It will
also be the deciding event in the Series where three drivers will divvy up
the $5000 jackpot.
The driver with the best
poker hand will receive $2500 with $1500 for second and $1000 for third.
With no other asphalt
tracks throughout the tri-state area running that day it is expected that a
stellar field will be on hand for the 2009 season finale.
Both Modified and Street
classes will run time trials in setting the grids for their respective 100
lappers.
Keeping in mind that night
is Halloween, the track is planning special treats for the kids that day and
after the races are over they are invited to bring their treat bags into the
pits and meet the drivers.
