October
is Month of Money for Mahoning Valley Speedway Modified Drivers
Mahoning Valley Speedway
has just two race dates in October which are the first and last Saturday’s
of the month and on those days Modified drivers will be vying for some
serious cash payouts. One lucky driver can even walk away with over $10,000!
On October 3 and 31 the
final three 100-lap events of the Modified 100 Poker Series will be run.
With each of those features paying $3000 to win plus the additional bonus of
the Poker Series point fund which includes $2500, $1500 and $1000 to the top
three card holders, there is the possibility that one driver can win all
three races and grab the top prize in the bonus jackpot.
October 3 will consist of
Hands Three and Four of the Modified 100 Poker Series. Hand three still has
63 laps to be run after the original show was halted back on July 25 due to
rain. Hand Four was initially set for August 22 but that show was also
washed out as well.
Currently division point
leader John Bennett is leading in the Hand Three race over Chip Santee, Tom
Flanagan, Eric Beers and Rick Reichenbach.
Beers was the winner in
Hand One with Earl Paules taking the win in Hand Two. Flanagan, meanwhile,
holds the best poker hand after two events with a pair of sixes. Next come
Paules with an Ace and King.
When Hand Three is completed a full round of time trials and heats will be
run in order to set the grid for Hand Four.
That same evening all
regular track classes, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Modifieds and Pro4
Late Models will run their final point race of the season with the exception
of the Street Stocks. All those aforementioned classes will run for double
points also. Race time is 6:00 p.m.
October 31 will be an afternoon program beginning at 2:00 p.m. This will be
the final race of the season at Mahoning.
Once again the Modifieds
will run time trials in order to set the top-12 who will be guaranteed
starters. All others will then run in heats.
With no other asphalt tracks throughout the tri-state area running that day
it is expected that a stellar field will be on hand for the 2009 finale.
This will also be the final point race for the Mods.
Also on the card will be a
100-lap Street Stock feature. Before that takes place, however, there will
be a 25-lap make-up feature from July 25 which will be the race that decides
the outcome of this year’s class champion.
Keeping in mind that night is Halloween, the track is planning special
treats for the kids that day and after the races are over they are invited
to bring their treat bags into the pits and meet the drivers.
