Two Races Remain to Close
Out Sundance Season
A pair of races remain to close out the
2009 card at Sundance Vacations Speedway and track champions
were crowned for all divisions following the season ending King
of the Mountain show last weekend
With a spectacular season, Kyle Ebersole edged Bobby Jones for
the Modified title and Zane Zeiner took the Sport Modified title
over Jason Hearne. Despite losing the Modified championship by 5
points, Jones will be awarded “Rookie of the Year” at the
track’s banquet on November 14. Along with the Sport Modified
championship, Zeiner picked up Rookie of the Year honors.
Mike Sweeney stayed out of trouble to take the Late Model title
over Jerry Hildebrand. It is the second straight championship
for Sweeney. Hildebrand took Rookie of the Year honors.
Brad Barbush grabbed the Street Stock championship from his
brother Joe in the final weekend of points racing. The feat
marks the first Barbush championship in many years of competing
at the speedway. Harry Sager finished 11th in the point
standings and picked up Rookie of the Year in the popular class.
Mike Moyer, Jr. overcame late season problems to earn his first
career championship in the Factory Stocks over King of the
Mountain winner, Jay Gould. With his second place effort, Gould
took Rookie of the Year.
Jon Smith wrapped up the Four Cylinder FWD title over Robert
Fink in his first full season at the speedway. In his first full
season at the speedway, Smith will be honored as Rookie of the
Year.
Uncontested throughout the final stages of the season, Scott
Hubler cruised to the INEX Legends championship over Justin
Grimm. Hubler also claimed Rookie f the Year honors in the
division.
The popular NELMA Late Model Challenge boasts $2000 for the
winner of the 100-lap event, which is slated for Saturday,
October 24. In conjunction with the full-fendered show is the
Legend Fall Classic and the Street Stock Fender Fury. A racers
swap meet and Rat Rod Festival will take place on the track
grounds prior to the annual event. The swap meet and Rot Rod
Festival will run from 10 AM through 2 PM, followed by the
racing card for the afternoon.
The November 1st “Halloween Screamer” is the seventh and final
points event for the Mountain Madness Enduro Series. With double
points and big money on the line, the 150-lap events for both
the 42 and 6/8-cylider fields will help determine this seasons
champions. The Trophy Trucks are also on tap for the afternoon.
The 10th annual Sundance Vacations Speedway banquet will be held
on Saturday, November 14 at Genetti Inn and Suites in Hazleton,
PA. Tickets are available at the speedway office, or can be
ordered by downloading an order form from the track website.
Sundance Vacations Speedway is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa,
located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309.
Grandstand admission for regular events is just $10. As always,
children ages 10 and younger are admitted for free.
