The 10th Annual King of the Mountain with $5,000-to-win
Modifieds
Sundance Vacations Speedway’s Super Bowl of motorsports is approaching
and the 10th annual event will be like none other, as track Promoter, Joe
Callavini will pay $5000 to the winner of the 150-lap Modified blowout to
celebrate the tenth running of the greatest asphalt show in PA. For years,
the two-day event has showcased talent, and with extended lap races and
larger purses, Callavini looks for the season ending event to be bigger than
ever.
Similar to years past, each division will qualify and run their feature
event on the same day, and all divisions throughout the weekend will be
awarded double points, to decide the championship.
The weekend will kick off at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval near Hazleton, PA on
Friday, October 9 with open practice for all divisions from 6-9 PM. Pit pass
will cost $20 for the evening and grandstand admission is free.
The Sport Mods, Late Models, Factory Stocks and TQ midgets will run extended
lap main events on Saturday, October 10. Heat race qualifiers will begin at
1 PM. The afternoon will be capped off with a 100-lap Sport Modified main
event. A pit party is also being planned for the evening.
Four big features will showcase the racing on Sunday, October 11. Following
practice for all divisions, the mighty Modifieds will take center stage for
qualifying. Heat races and consi events, to fill the fields. After
completion of the support division main events, the evening will be capped
off with a $5000 to win, 150-lap main event for the Modifieds. All of
Sunday’s action will begin at 3 PM.
Feature winners of each of the two modified mains will receive guaranteed
starting spots in the North-South Shootout event at Concord Motor Speedway
in North Carolina and also for Turkey Derby XXXVI at Wall Stadium on the
Jersey Shore.
All entrants will draw for heat race or time trial starting positions on
race day. Twenty cars will start feature events, and consi races will be
run-if needed.
The top ten in driver points for all Sundance Vacations Speedway divisions
after the October 4th racing program will be added to the feature as a
provisional, provided they do not qualify through heat races, time trials or
consi events. The drivers must attempt to qualify in both, heat (time trials
for mods) and consi in order to be eligible for a provisional spot.
Several hot shoes from the Northeast are expected to attend, such as Brian
DeFebo, a former three-time modified champion at the speedway. Jimmy
"Showtime" Blewett is expected to be in attendance with his Sport and Full
Blown Modified after winning qualifiers at Wall Stadium. Kyle Ebersole, a
talented young gun who has soared to many feature wins this season, is sure
to be one of the favorites for the afternoon, as is Matt Hirschman, fan
favorite, Eric Beers and the “Jersey Outlaw” Pete Brittain.
A pit pass for Saturday or Sunday is $40 per day. Grandstand admission fee
is $20 for ages 11 and up on Saturday and $25 for ages 11 and up on Sunday.
As always, children 10 years of age and younger are admitted for free.
In case of inadequate weather, the speedway has set the following
weekend(Oct. 17/18) to use as a make-up date.
