Wall Stadium and Sundance Vacations Speedway to Share
Qualifiers
More than just being popular with tourists and as a weekend getaway for
city folks, the New Jersey shore and the Pocono Mountain region of northeast
Pennsylvania will have another exciting trait in common this fall, and this
one will be especially appealing to race fans of open wheel Modified racing.
For the first time ever, race promoter Jim Morton, of N.J.'s Wall Stadium,
and promoter Joe Callavini of Sundance Vacations Speedway in PA, have agreed
to share qualifying races for blockbuster year-ending events at both
speedways.
This year marks the 10th year that the "King Of The Mountain" championship
weekend at Sundance Vacations Speedway located in St. Johns, PA (just north
of Hazleton) will take place on Saturday/Sunday, October 10-11, at the
popular 1/3 mile oval. This prestigious event has seen many race teams from
surrounding states, compete to claim victory and wear the coveted crown. For
the 10th anniversary, SVS promoter Joe Callavini has spared no expense and
with extra distance/extra money events for all race divisions, any cars
fitting the rules are welcome to compete. The KOTM weekend is headlined by
the 150 lap, $5000 to win event for the Tour type Modifieds on Sunday,
October 11. Saturday evening’s (Oct. 10) race program will showcase the
Sport Modifieds in a 100-lap feature event. Also known as "B" mods, these
more affordable alternatives to the Tour Type Mods are also known as SK (conn.)
or SST (western N.Y.), and are Wall Stadium's top division, where they are
known simply as, "Wall Mods".
A Thanksgiving tradition that has become a ritual for race fans and racers
across the northeast, Turkey Derby XXXVI is set to go green on
Friday/Saturday, November 27-28, at the historic, high banked 1/3 mile
Jersey shore oval located on route 34 in Wall, New Jersey. This event has
grown enormously under the direction of Wall promoter Jim Morton, and all
indications are that this year's event could be the largest to date. The
Mighty 600 horsepower Tour type Modifieds will also headline Turkey Derby
XXXVI, with a 150-lap event on Saturday, November 28. With a purse that is
yet to be determined, this year's Turkey Derby champion will surely be
taking home a huge top prize, for their winning efforts. The Wall Modifieds
will also be in action and the SK, SST, and SVS Sport Modifieds are all
welcome to compete for the right to be named Turkey derby champion, for
2009. Support divisions will also be in action and teams from other tracks
are invited to race.
This past weekend, Jimmy "Showtime" Blewett of Howell, N.J. charged from
deep in the field, and grabbed the "King Of The Mountain" qualifier at Wall
Stadium's twin 50 lap events for the Tour type Modifieds. By virtue of
winning the qualifier, a guaranteed starting position for the 10th annual
KOTM event awaits "Showtime", who has never competed at the fast 1/3 mile
PA. Paved oval. Another qualifier for the "B" Modified portion of the KOTM
event at SVS is scheduled as part of this coming weekend's John Blewett III
memorial 76 lap event at Wall Stadium. The winner of this event would also
receive guaranteed starting status at the Sport Modified 100 lap event, at
Sundance Vacations Speedway, for Saturday's portion of the KOTM event.
To return the favor, the winner of both the Sport Modified and Tour type
Modified events at Sundance Vacations Speedway's KOTM, would both receive
guaranteed starting positions at Turkey Derby XXXVI. This should make the
decision for race teams looking to run both events, a little easier to
determine there racing schedules for the remainder of the 2009 season. These
will surely be two "Do Not Miss" events on your fall racing calendars!
