Jentile & Grocholski Claim NEETS “Mutha of All Enduros”
 PLUS Division Titles

Totally Crushed, Joe & Joe Steal the Gold Enroot to Series Championships

The ABC Car Crushing NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series season finale kicked off Sunday at Mountain Speedway with the annual running of the “Mutha of all Enduros” double point event, which was presented by Drews Enterprises. With 200-laps of racing for each, the Steel Seal four cylinder division, along with the Cascioli Roofing 6/8 cylinder division, fans were guaranteed to witness crushing results. When the smoke cleared, Joe Grocholski found victory lane in the four cylinders and Joe “Millionaire” Jentile claimed the checkers in the 6/8-cylinder division. With the wins, both drivers earned division titles and each of their championship cars were 12” tall by the end of the evening.
Mark Spencer led the sixty-five Steel Seal four-cylinder field to the drop of the green flag from the pole position. Being up front was short lived, as Bill Price, Jr. drove around the leader and into the top spot before a lap was scored. With ten laps in the books, Long Island modified ace, Tommy Rogers, Jr. grabbed the lead but handed it back to Price only four laps later. Price still led on lap twenty-five with Rogers, Spencer, Harry Sager and Bobby Coco completing the top five. Only one lap later, Rogers and Tommy Walkowiak collected on the speedway.
Sager made a charge to the top spot on lap ninety-six, but Price wasn’t giving up easily, as he regained the position only a few circuits later when Sager was collected by another race car. By mid-race, Mike Mujsce, Jr. worked his way into the top five and Joe Grocholski ran sixth. With a solid run, Grocholski was basically assured the championship.
With twenty laps remaining, Spencer ducked into the pits and Grocholski found himself in the second spot, one lap down to Price. In the meantime, Bob Haeger quietly worked his way into the top five.
In dominating fashion, Price took the win over Grocholski. However, post race tech inspection was a tough pill to swallow for Price, who was disqualified. The win was then given to Grocholski, which meant that his car would be crushed in victory lane. Finishing second to Grocholski was Mujsce. Haeger, Coco and Matt Guida rounded out the top five.
Sixty-Seven cars strong, the Cascioli Roofing 6/8 cylinders took to the speedway. After starting on the pole, Howie Bott tucked into third behind Ray Rothfuss and Richard Petey. Only eleven laps in, Keith Bissinger took command of the event, but lost the spot to Rothfuss a few laps later. The two swapped the lead on multiple occasions until lap twenty-five, when Ray Fitzgerald slid by and into first.
The red flag flew when Ralph Soluri’s machine stalled in turn one. When green flag racing resumed it continued to be Fitzgerald, followed by Bott, Joe Jentile, Rothfuss and Bissinger. In the tightest NEETS points battle, Jentile held the third spot in points, yet only ten markers behind Jeff Walls. Only four points behind Walls was Tim Pauch.
Walls and Pauch finally broke into the top five by lap one hundred and fifty. At that point, Jentile was a lap down in second place behind Fitzgerald. Bott continued to run third.
Fitzgerald began to slow with about ten to go, yet appeared to have the win in the bag as the white flag flew. However, things changed dramatically when Fitzgerald stopped in turn four before taking the checkers. Jentile scooted by on the outside for the win (and crown). Fitzgerald rolled across the strip second. Howie Bott, Jeff Walls and Tim Pauch completed the top five.
After the events, both Grocholski and Jentile said that they wouldn’t give up their championships to lose their favorite cars. Grocholski, who was also last season’s four-cylinder thriller champion announce his retirement as a driver in the enduro series. Jentile hinted that he has another car almost completed for next season. Each driver took home $1500 for their wins Saturday.
